London Olympics 2012 Haul of Six Medals

India won six medals in London Olympics 2012

 In London Olympics 2012, India set to 2 silver and 4 bronze medals

India’s luck cried for the gold medal

India won 2 medals in freestyle wrestling, 1 medal in rapid fire pistol 

event, 1 medal in flying weight boxing, 1 medal in air rifle event and 1 

medal in single’s badminton. Totally India won 6 medals in London 

Olympics 2012 and occupied 55th position in “Medals Tally”


1. Sushil kumar won the silver medal in men’s 66 kg freestyle wrestling, becoming the 

first Indian to win an individual medal at two Olympic Games.



2. 26-year-old Vijay Kumar won the silver in the men’s 25 metre rapid fire pistol event.




3. Five-time world champion MC Mary Kom won the bronze medal in women’s 


flyweight boxing.





4. Gagan Narang won the bronze in the men’s 10 metre air rifle event, to open India’s 


account.





5. Yogeshwar Dutt fought an astonishing three bouts in one hour to win the bronze 


medal in the men’s 60 kg freestyle wrestling.





6. World number four Saina Nehwal took the bronze in women’s singles badminton. 


She became India’s first shuttler to win an Olympic medal.

1. Joydeep Karmakar narrowly missed out on a medal as he finished fourth in men’s 

50 metre rifle prone shooting.


2. Parupalli Kashyap became the first Indian male shuttler to reach the quarterfinals at 

the Olympics.

India’s Lows of the Olympics




1. India finished last in the men’s hockey tournament.

2. Deepika Kumari, the world number one archer, was knocked out of the women’s 

individual archery event.

3. India’s campaign in tennis, hurt by the controversies before the Games, ended in 

disappointment.

4. Beijing 2008 gold medalist Abhinav Bindra failed to qualify for the final of men’s 10 

metre air rifle shooting.
